Design Dot Living Room

Collaboration is a beautiful thing in the design community. Take DesignDot, a community of designers who share ideas to create projects that are affordable, fun and customized for every client. They are hosting an event this weekend (more details below) where you can learn more about their services as you explore the best of downtown New Canaan. Read on to learn more below:

How did the idea of DesignDot come about?

DesignDot was born from an idea that design should be fun, affordable and personal. We believe that creativity and innovation stems from the relationship between designer and client. We encourage our clients to participate in the design process. The surprises should come from the inventive approach to creative, not from budgetary demands.

Design Dot kitchenHow does DesignDot work? What are some services that you offer?

DesignDot provides design service options that can be tailored to specific project needs and support the client’s creative vision. Our initial complimentary consultation helps us learn more about your goals and recommend the best service for your project. We continue to offer our signature StyleDiary, a flat fee design service for a small area, which is a great way to try the platform and give DIY clients confidence in their ideas. All of our services are described in more detail on our website www.thedesigndot.com.

Why is mixing tech with design important to your mission?

Our unique use of technology and shared media provides clients with a visual roadmap of current and future projects. We aim to provide each client with a comfortable means of purchasing goods under the careful guidance of a trained professional. We recognize that many of our clients may already be eager design consumers utilizing online sources. We too have embraced current technology and can quickly synthesize ideas into a customized design plan. Our use of technology also enables us to provide a high level of customer service without dramatically increasing our overhead expenses with staff.

How can a designer or boutique be part of DesignDot?

We are constantly looking to expand our team of talented designers and unique product offerings. By meeting with DesignDot, we can determine if there is a mutual benefit for both the business owner and DesignDot. It’s easy to contact us – just email hello@thedesigndot.com to schedule an appointment.

Design Dot event

Tell us more about the event on the 22nd.

The DesignDot team and our community of partners are hosting an all-day Open Studio Event in downtown New Canaan on 71 Elm Street on Sep 22. Guests will be able to mix and mingle with DesignDot designers and stylists while enjoying some light bites and Rosé and check out our studio space.

During the event, you can also visit special guests in the DesignDot studio, including kitchen expert Beth Colwell from New Canaan's beloved The Wire Whisk. Beth will be onsite to share her favorite utensils and brands, and will encourage guests to visit DesignDot's favorite kitchen utensil and accessory store Consider the Cook. Fran Normann, Executive Director at Housatonic Habitat for Humanity, will also be at the event to talk about how we can support our local chapter in Danbury, which is a non-profit organization helping to build affordable homes for qualified working families.

There will also be a walking tour with DesignDot Founder Megan Wunderlich at 11am who will discuss industry trends and home furnishing production from High Point, North Carolina. A visit to nearby CD Interiors on Elm Street will expose you to a selection of the products seen in High Point and teach you trade secrets about pricing. On the way, we will peek into Found, a home accessory boutique on Elm. We also know that Saturdays are busy, so kids are more than welcome to attend as well.
