Holiday Decor Tips Home Winter

Holiday decorating doesn’t have to mean putting out the ceramic village. But, if that’s your thing, do it up! Here at  Modsy we believe that holiday doesn't need to dictate your decor, but can offer fun, fresh ideas for when you’re looking to mix it up a bit. Here are a few of my favorite ways to ring in the holiday season with your home decor! !

Match your everyday style with your holiday decor:

We’re seeing an uptick in holiday decor that breaks from the classically themed designs we all grew up with, and seems to align more with individual design aesthetics. Think glam, minimalist, mid-century modern--all your favorite styles--translated to holiday decor.

Make room to entertain:

The only thing scarier than a house full of guests is not having enough space for them to sit.

  • If you’ve recently moved or maybe you’re a minimalist who is sparse on furniture or simply live in a tiny apartment, you can add a few low-cost seating elements that are dual purpose like poufs, floor pillows, benches that can easily be stowed away or put to use on the daily for non-entertaining moments.
  • It can help to strategically place chairs throughout the house for those few times a year that the table grows. You can flank a dresser, media console, or buffet with a set of chairs, add one in your entry, at a desk, or in the corner of your bedroom.

Create a cozy winter space with color and light:

Holiday decor doesn’t have to mean obviously festive pieces, anyone can create a haven from the cold.

  • Change out your pillows and throws to add rich fall and winter colors into your home that can last throughout the entire winter season. Layer in faux fur and chunky knit blankets for the ultimate winter wonderland. This brown throw blanket from Target is a great price and adds a winter wonderland feeling.
  • Use mood lighting to reinforce the warm feeling--this is the best time of year for candles, twinkle lights, and yes, actually Christmas lights. Copper wire lights are super versatile and can be put inside a bottle or lantern, or incorporated into any decor. Use these lowlights to create a cozy, hygge vibe!

Roll in the bar:

One of the most festive pieces of holiday decor is a bar cart, but (hint hint) this is something that lets the good times roll year round so don’t be nervous to invest in one now!

  • Since we entertain more often during the holiday season, use your bar cart to take center stage. Create a punch or hot chocolate station where guests can mix and mingle. I love this marble top bar cart from Anthropologie because it has a built-in ice bucket!

Get cheesy with your decor:

The thing about the holidays is, no matter how chic and posh you are on a day to day basis, this is the time of the year be a bit more nostalgic.

  • Bring out your Santa's, mistletoe, dreidels, and garland in whatever style you love, and if you’re like me, cozy up with loved ones and stream all of the Hallmark original movies.
