Travel Diaries: Adventures in Savannah

To photograph the Calliope on the June Cover of CTC&G photographer Ellen McDermott and her associate Bridget Sciales and I headed down to Savannah to spend a few days shooting and exploring this southern city. Our hosts and tour guides were Jeff and Lynn Morgan who have a home in the city.

Lynn is a Connecticut-based interior designer who grew up in Savannah gave us the insider’s tour of this wonderful weekend destination and lead us to some wonderful and delicious restaurants. A quick flight from NYC to Savannah meant that we could ease our way into the day.

First stop was brunch at Collins Quarter a fun restored building on Bull Street. Styled after Melbourne’s historic Collins Street in Australia.

The vibe is relaxed with an innovative cuisine, the crew all fell for the lavender lattes and the avocado smash delicious! After such a delicious meal it was time to stretch our legs in one of the most walk able city.

Savannah is made up of 22 squares, each with a different personality. You may recognize Chippewa Square, the square that Tom Hanks’s character waited for the bus in Forrest Gump! You will enjoy the antebellum mansions, historic churches, manicured gardens, and decorative ironwork.

Don’t forget to take in the beautiful and iconic Southern Live Oak trees adorned with Spanish moss. So bring your walking shoes!
