CTC&G (Connecticut Cottages & Gardens) announced John Edelman, President and CEO of Design Within Reach, as  the 2014 Innovator award recipient for its 8th annual Innovation in Design Awards on May 20th. The CTC&G Innovation in Design Awards celebrates and honors top design in the following categories: Architecture, Interior Design, Kitchen Design, Bath Design, Garden Design, Builder Recognition and Innovative Product.

“Throughout his career in design John Edelman has been an innovator,” said Editorial Director, D.J. Carey. “Most recently as the President and CEO of Design Within Reach, John has made authentic modern pieces accessible to the consumer for the first time. His commitment to protecting designers of classic modern pieces and his recent effort to involve more designers at Design Within Reach has changed the way we all view and live with modern design.”

Mr. Edelman has more than 20 years of experience with consumer-focused lifestyle brands, most recently at Edelman Leather. During his 14-year tenure at Edelman, six years of which were spent as President and CEO, he exponentially increased its brand awareness, sales and profits as the leading national provider of premium leather to the home furnishings industry. He was instrumental in leading the sale of his namesake company to Knoll, Inc., in October 2007. Prior to joining Edelman in 1995, Mr. Edelman spent seven years at Sam & Libby, Inc., where he was responsible for its U.S. business. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Waterworks, the Board of Trustees of DIFFA, and on the board of Carlos Falchi handbags.
