Iron it Out
Ars Ferrum has unique pieces for your home
As the summer heat sets in, keep your home cool with a refreshing, original piece by Ars Ferrum. From abstract iron sculptures to more practical tables and mirrors, each piece is unique and finely crafted.
While many of the objects feature handmade natural iron, some seamlessly blend stone, wood, and glass. This elegant coffee table, (below), combines natural iron with a stone top. Its rippling shape, reminiscent of ocean-waves or seaweed, is perfect for summer.
If you don’t need a new coffee table, though, maybe this fanciful mirror is for you. Thin ribbons of iron seem to sprout from the circular reflective surface, and bloom into wonderful curls and coils. This piece is an experiment with form and shape, and I love how alive and natural the iron looks—almost like a plant growing in front of you.
In fact, perhaps what makes the Ars Ferrum collection so special is this interweaving of natural forms and manmade materials, which is why my personal favorite is this quirky shoe sculpture. I love the whimsical juxtaposition of the dense, solid material with the light, swirly shape of the shoe. The iron laces spring upward, like flower stems blowing in the wind. Graceful, sophisticated, and not too serious, this sculpture would make a delightful garden piece or elegant centerpiece for a summer dinner party.
If you like the style and character of these pieces, but have something slightly different in mind, stop by the gallery to discuss a custom design project, and treat yourself to a summer sculpture. Arsferrum.com
