Lachlan Murdoch Buys a 45-Acre Aspen Dream Home for $29M
Lachlan Murdoch, the son of billionaire Rupert Murdoch, is an expert businessman and the presumed heir to his father’s global media company, News Corp. He follows a long line of Murdochs who have dominated the media industry and is the executive chairman of 21st Century Entertainment as well as Australia’s NOVA Entertainment.
The British-born Australian American has a head for business and an eye for real estate. Recently, Variety reported that the media mogul bought an equestrian-focused property in Aspen, Colorado on Buttermilk Mountain. Listed for a jaw-dropping $49 million this March, 46-year-old Murdoch and his wife, model Sarah O’Hare, successfully snagged the property with a lowball offer of $29 million.
With 13,491 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 6 full and 2 half bathrooms, plus a 1,550-square-foot guesthouse, you could say the savvy heir and his wife will have plenty of room to spread out. The monster Aspen purchase is a horse-lover’s dream with a 2,750-square-foot stable and 45 acres of wooded land to explore.
The stable can accommodate four horses and still leaves room for luxury offering a lounge with a fireplace and bathroom. A 1,800 foot-long-driveway offers serene privacy and a private ski-in/ski-out path allows for days full of powdery fun.
Inside the home, huge glass windows give breathtaking views of snowy mountains and vast forests. The décor is sleek yet distinctly western throughout the house with cool grays, luxe metallic accents, and soft leather furnishings.
A home movie theater and a gym with a view make staying at home just as enticing as skiing or horseback riding. Luckily, the couple will get to do plenty of both now that they own this ultimate Aspen haven.
Joshua Saslove and Amy Doherty of Douglas Elliman had the listing.
