Have the Obamas Set Their Sights on the Upper East Side?

The Obamas Have Their Sights Set On An Upper East Side ApartmentMultiple sources have told Page Six that the Obamas are apartment hunting at 10 Gracie Square—a historic building on the Upper East Side known for attracting influential residents. The pre-war building has been home to Gloria Vanderbilt, publisher John Fairchild, conductor Andre Kostelanetz and real estate tycoon Eric Rudin, but has never before drawn in a political power couple.

The Former President and First Lady have been spotted going to viewings at the co-op, although it is still unknown which exact unit they are considering.

Built in 1930, the distinguished residence has 15 floors, 43 apartments and is only a few blocks south of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s home, Gracie Mansion.

According to real estate expert and critic Carter Horsley, 10 Gracie Square is “one of New York City's most prestigious addresses,” and “is the most desirable residential building overlooking Carl Schurz Park.”

While it has an illustrious history, the building has been brought up to 21st century standards when it comes to luxury. An indoor basketball court, full gym, and top of the line security are just a few of the amenities residents enjoy.

If the Obamas decide to purchase a Manhattan apartment, it will be their second real estate endeavor this year. In June, the couple bought a Tudor style mansion in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington D.C. for $8.1 million. They had been renting the stately home since the end of Barack Obama’s presidency and have stated that they plan to stay in D.C. for the next two years while their youngest daughter, Sasha, finishes high school.
