Tom Petty’s California Lake House is Up For Sale
People all over the world grieved when Tom Petty suddenly passed away in early October due to a heart attack. The beloved songbird touched many with his music, a fact that was further proven when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2002.
Although the “American Girl” singer is gone, traces of his life and legacy remain, and one such meaningful possession is currently on the market. Tom Petty’s 5,300-square-foot lake house retreat, dubbed Casa Della Madonna, is up for sale for $5.895 million. Dana Sparks and Amy Alcini of Compass have the listing.
Petty and his wife Dana York bought the Lake Sherwood villa in 2007 and cherished the time they spent there. The couple often enjoyed boating and the late rocker liked to unwind with fishing. Petty's wife recounts that he had an unconventional way of holding a fishing rod that seemed more like how one would hold a guitar.
Nestled on a lush hill, the home offers plenty of reasons to stay inside with spa-like stone bathtubs and a great room built of fieldstone that still holds the artist’s grand piano. The interiors transport guests to Tuscany with a warm color palette and rustic details.
The 3-bedroom, 3-bath abode was built in 1931 and has a history of being home to talented individuals. A Hollywood set designer constructed the house for actor Rudolph Valentino, but the star died before the project was complete. Since then, residents include author Francis Meehan and Ralph Carmichael, a renowned composer for voices like Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, and Nat King Cole.
One of the brokers, actress Dana Sparks, also owned the home for a period and was in fact the seller when Petty purchased it a decade ago, making the listing even more personal.
Original wood-beams and stone walls were carefully preserved when a 2004 renovation added 3,000 square-feet to the house. Luxurious additions include a new master suite, kitchen, two bedrooms, and multiple balconies for taking in the lake and mountain views.
Located in Thousand Oaks only nine miles from the ocean, the home allows you to bask in country tranquility while maintaining a close proximity to Malibu and LA.
The master suite stuns with high ceilings, glass doors that open to a private balcony, and an exquisite master bath.
