Country Legend George Strait Quietly Lists Texas Mansion
George Strait rose to country stardom in the 1980s with heartfelt lyrics and simple instrumentals. The singer’s stripped-down music style reflects his humble personality, which comes through in his real estate endeavors. The Texas-native just quietly listed his longtime San Antonio home, but has refrained from putting a price on the public listing.
Tamara Strait of Sotheby’s International Reality is the listing agent and the musician’s daughter-in-law. Ms. Strait gave Mansion Global personal insight into the famous seller’s mindset saying, “He doesn’t want to flaunt what he has. He doesn’t like to be in the limelight, that’s why we weren’t advertising it as his house.”
However, as Texas royalty, the news was bound to come out one way or another. Especially since the 7,925-square-foot home is so unique.
Perched on 12.2 acres atop a hill, the secluded estate is located in an exclusive community called The Dominion. Strait bought the lot in the mid-1990s and began his search for the right architect to design his house. Soon, renowned artist-turned-architect Bill Tull of Arizona moved to San Antonio for two years with his crew to build the country star’s mansion.
The care put into the design and execution of the project is apparent in the details, which include 14 hand-sculpted fireplaces, stained glass windows, saguaro cactus rib shutters, handcrafted tiles, and multiple murals. Constructed completely of rare imported adobe, the three-bedroom main home and one-bedroom casita spread is unlike anything in the area.
Luxury features include a basketball court, infinity edge pool, walk-in safe room, and covered outdoor patio.
The master suite boasts luxurious connecting His and Hers bathrooms with cozy fireplaces.
