You Could Own the Legendary Grey Gardens Estate

East Hampton's legendary Grey Gardens estate is available to buy.UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal has confirmed our suspicion—Grey Gardens officially hit the market for $19.995M. Owner Sally Quinn told WSJ that she is selling the property because it "just wasn’t the same" after the death of her husband Ben Bradlee in 2014. Ms. Quinn is open to selling the Beales' furniture, which she found in the attic and refurbished before using it to furnish much of the home. Corcoran's Michael Schultz and Susan Ryan represent the listing.

Previously only available for lease, we hear that a particularly storied estate in East Hampton will soon hit the sales market. Immortalized on screen and later in a Broadway musical, Grey Gardens hardly resembles the decrepit structure featured in the eponymous 1975 documentary that profiled its reclusive residents, “Big Edie” Bouvier Beale and her daughter, “Little Edie” Beale. The estate was sold 30 years ago to Sally Quinn and her husband, late Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee, who put it through a massive renovation that succeeded in both restoring the original grandeur and adding touches of modern luxury. The house spans 6,000 square feet and contains 7 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms along with open, gracious living spaces. It has retained the legendary gardens that gave it its name, but modern additions include a gunite pool and Har-Tru tennis court.
