Sheridan Interiors Gives a Shingle-Style Second Home a Fresh New Look

When designer Beth Schoenherr first met the owners of this New Canaan shingle-style residence built by Country Club Homes, the mandate was clear: “They bought the house in the spring, and they wanted to be in by summer,” she recalls. With just a few clues to work with—some pages from a magazine, for instance—Schoenherr viewed the directive as a challenge and an opportunity.

An 1830's Farmhouse Gains a Modern Sensibility Through an Unlikely Blend of Beloved Antiques, Contemporary Furnishings, French Textiles and Bold Color

On the Market: Two Marcel Breuer-Designed Homes

Especially intriguing are the homes built by architects for themselves: Here we see Marcel Breuer’s true genius, uncompromised by pesky client concerns. Designed in 1951 by the man best known for his tubular, steel-and-leather Wassily chair, this low-slung, stone-and-glass dwelling in New Canaan is U-shaped with separate wings for adult and children bedrooms.

On the Market: Classically Connecticut Homes

Designer Katie Brown, host of Katie Brown Workshop on American Public Television, is selling her circa-1900 Ridgefield home. The restoration of the rambling colonial, which Brown calls “a labor of love,” spanned its 7,200 square feet and four floors. There were plenty of original details to lavish love on but standouts include the rustic ceiling beams, antique hearth and sliding barn doors in the dining room and the bar, fireplace, lounge and poker room on the lower level.

The Napa Valley's Second and Third Generation Vintners are Coming of Age
