Actor Denis Leary's Roxbury Retreat Lists for $4.9M

The rustic Roxbury home of Ann and Denis Leary lists for $4.9M.We’re going to admit to an embarrassingly deep stalk into everything we could find online about Ann and Denis Leary’s Roxbury farm, recently listed for $4.9 million. Actor, writer and producer Denis might be the better known of the two, chiefly for his star turn on the TV series Rescue Me. But author Ann is also celebrated for her three novels, all of which take on some combination of home life (we loved The Good House), family (ditto The Children) and marriage (two thumbs up for Outtakes From a Marriage). The impossibly attractive couple purchased the circa-1850s, 50-acre property for less than $800,000 two decades ago, had the road leading up to it decommissioned so no one (stalkers, take note) could find them, and then, by the looks of it, poured millions into their now gorgeously rustic interiors and resort-like grounds. The main hearth space is a lovely example of the Leary design aesthetic, a wall-less “room” created with vertical and horizontal beams that make an open box around the fireplace area. There’s another hearth in the chic kitchen and a third in the family room. And throughout the nearly 6,200-square-foot interiors there are plenty of places to stay (we’re available!) and play, including a game room with a wet bar and a media room. Outside, there’s a sport court that converts to a hockey rink, complete with a warming hut; a four-stall horse barn and a riding ring; and a pool and barnlike pool house, where our, um, research reveals Denis wrote his own bestseller Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid. Peter Klemm of Klemm Real Estate has the listing.
