Creative home solutions that every designer should know about
Don’t let an ugly alarm clock ruin your interior masterpiece. Opt for the QLOCKTWO with its sleek, award-winning design. A matrix of written words tells you the time without traditional clock hands. Modern and flat, the timepiece can be mounted on the table or wall; it comes in understated stainless steel or a variety of fun colors to match any interior. Jeremy Cole’s sculpturally beautiful and technologically stunning ceramic lights are inspired by a flower’s life cycle. Hand-formed bone china leaves are carefully assembled to diffuse light. The clean, natural shapes complement any interior. My favorite is the White Flax ceiling light made of
368 matte-finish ceramic leaves precisely organized in an energetic pattern around a single lightbulb. Property, 14 Wooster St., NYC, (917) 237-0123, jeremycole.net.
Hole in One
Designer Andres Ferrandis of Art+T has created a stunning collection of dining and coffee tables, each with random-sized and -placed holes in the top. Not just artistically beautiful, the holes are functional too—for bud vases or anything you can imagine. The Papu table is made in Carrara marble with zebra-wood legs. There’s also a wonderful series of tables with sandblasted clear-acrylic tops on semigloss-coated aluminum legs for use inside or out. Art+T, (786) 486-7248, artplust.com.
I recently discovered Astek after an unsuccessful search for wallpaper. This company has a library of classic patterns and can even print your own creations on elegant materials like silk, grass cloth and cork. With screen and digital printing capabilities, Astek’s papers work in traditional and modern interiors. And an in-house design department makes it easy to get exactly what you desire. Whether you need an area rug to protect a wood floor in a kitchen or would like an interesting but durable floor covering in a playroom, Bolon’s sophisticated patterns and colors are great options. Made of woven PVC plastic, I use it as an alternative to sisal because it’s waterproof and pet- and kid-resistant. It can be installed wall-to-wall, pieced together for striking impact or bound with faux-leather binding for a custom area rug. A.T. Proudian, 120 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich, (203) 622-1200, bolon.com.
