This Contemporary Connecticut Kitchen Offers a Fresh Take on Traditional Design
When life revolves around the kitchen, a highly functional space that connects to the rest of the house is essential. In this home, which was showcased on the 2017 New Canaan Cares Kitchen Tour, the kitchen touches the family room, breakfast room, dining room, living room and mudroom. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls draw the eye to the back of the house immediately upon entering the new construction home, designed by the architectural firm of Brooks & Falotico Associates.
In the kitchen, a 16-foot island is backed by a banquette, which is paired with chairs from Design Within Reach and a custom wooden table. High gloss lacquered cabinets with integrated finger grabs continue the contemporary aesthetic, while hanging stainless shelving draws the eye upward.
“It was our recommendation to do the glossy cabinets—they are 100 percent sheen automotive paint for durability,” notes Louise Brooks of Brooks & Falotico Associates, durability being a must-have for this family of eight. The adjacent breakfast area is furnished with a Saarinen table and chairs from Design Within Reach. Designer Tori Legge of Stirling Mills Interior Design completed the look with contemporary artwork from Heather Gaudio Fine Art.
